Leading up to the Bank Holiday definitely proved to be busy as we attended the BuildForce Northern Alliance event at Hull Kingston Rovers RLFC, KCOM Craven Park, Hull, HU9 5HE on 25th May.
The construction industry has a huge shortage of skilled workers and many of the 14,000 personnel that leave the Armed Forces each year have the kind of skills that are directly transferable to the construction industry.
BuildForce is an alliance of construction employers, industry bodies and service charities, supported by Government, which connects Service Leavers and Veterans with job opportunities in construction and gives construction employers access to a unique pool of Armed Forces talent. They provide service leavers with mentoring guidance on identifying transferable skills, training, constructing CVs, work placements and job opportunities… and to add to the benefits… the programme is free to join!
BuildForce Northern Alliance are eager to work with local networks and support programmes to enable support and transition. They can also offer mentoring support. It was useful to find out that 60% of leavers are early service leaders and thus could utilise the opportunities made available at Futureworks (Yorkshire).
At Futureworks (Yorkshire) we are proud to say we are already working and supporting the ‘Be Your Best Programme’… and moving forward we are keen to continue our work with them, building networks and assisting in progression opportunities. Watch this space for opportunities!
