Tuesday 7th March saw the official launch of the Forging Futures Campus initiative at Kirkstall Forge, coinciding with National Apprentice Week 2017.
The Forging Futures Campus is a brand new skills initiative on-site at Kirkstall Forge. This is a pioneering new skills campus delivered by CEG through an on-site coordinator, in collaboration with Leeds College of Building, Wates, Leeds City Council and BARCA. It aims to bring forward the new apprentices of Yorkshire by offering young people and people from the local area the opportunity to get hands on experience and mentoring from contractors on site. This is a very exciting time for Kirkstall Forge and for all the people who will be involved, enabling them to work alongside developers, builders, architects and engineers and in turn it provides a springboard for apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
Our Director Mark Scott commented:
“2017 is key to apprenticeships. There have been some massive changes and there are many more to come. People need support to make that transition from the classroom into the workplace, and this campus is all about making this transition possible in a safe environment. At the same time people can gain access to proper advice and careers guidance to support them in their futures. For employers, this is a fantastic opportunity to actually see people in action in the workplace as opposed to in the classroom.”
