National Apprenticeship Week doesn’t just bring in new talent- it also gives us a chance to celebrate the apprentices who are already out doing fantastic work! Riley Wilson is just one of the amazing apprentices who has been proving how great apprenticeships can be- and he has been impressing everyone that works with him!
A student at Leeds College, Riley started his apprenticeship in August 2017 at a Care Home site in Keighley before moving to a nearby Housing Development site in December 2017. Over that time, he has quickly grown his skills and confidence, proving both his reliability and commitment to his work. At the beginning of his apprenticeship Riley’s involvement in joinery was fairly limited; but after working alongside Joiners on-site he has progressed at a very impressive pace. In fact, over the past month, his peers all agreed that his maturity and work ethic proved that he was ready to progress from hand tools to power tools.
Riley’s host employer, Wildgoose Construction, approached YORfutures to see how we could boost his training further to use power tools- and we were happy to be able to help! We secured some training via Leeds College where Riley already studies and, once his training is completed, we will review our risk assessments so that he can begin using his new skills on site.
The good news doesn’t stop there: keen to show their support for Riley and all the progress he has made, Wildgoose Construction have bought him the power tools he will need to start working, worth over £500! Ray Foleher, from Wildgoose Construction, told us: “Riley has excelled in his performance over the last few months and we find him a pleasure to work with. He is now ready to move on from the basic 1st stage fixing to the more intricate 2nd and 3rd fix stage. With both his attitude to learning and the want to succeed that this young man has we feel he will go far.”
Congratulations Riley- we look forward to seeing some of your Joinery work soon!
